New to the area with a growing appreciation for this community, it’s been eye-opening for me to learn about the people who’ve helped shape Bend into what it is today. One of those people is Mike Hollern, chairman of the Brooks Resources Corporation board of directors, and a visionary whose leadership and long-standing commitment to thoughtful development has left a lasting mark on Central Oregon. In my role as the new Marketing Intern at Brooks Resources, I had the opportunity to sit down with Mike for a lighter conversation, exploring some of his favorite things in Bend. For someone who I admire, it was a privilege to learn a little more about the things he enjoys the most in this growing and active community. Here are some of Mike’s favorite things, from restaurants to good reads.
Favorite Restaurant: Ariana Restaurant
Favorite Place to Get a Taco: At home, when my wife Sue makes them.
Favorite Piece of Public Art: Man on the Bench. It’s one of the longest-standing art pieces in Bend, it’s iconic, and represents tougher times.
Favorite Local Beer or Brewery: RPM IPA at Boneyard Brewery
Favorite Oregon Wine: Ken Wright Pinot Gris
Favorite Fishing Spot: The Crooked River
Favorite Thing to Do with Family: Gather on the porch and talk.
Favorite Sports Team: The Minnesota Vikings
Favorite Summer Read: Wide Wide Sea by Hampton Sides
Favorite Thing About the People of Bend: They’re kind, thoughtful, and respectful of others.
