Brooks Resources History
The story of Brooks Resources Corporation is the story of Bend and its transition from a frontier settlement to a timber boomtown and then on to a diverse city in the heart of Oregon’s high desert.
1901 | Brooks-Scanlon Lumber Company organized in Minnesota
Bend population in 1901 was 258.
1905 | Scanlon Gipson Lumber Company of Minnesota purchases large block of timber near Bend
1911 | Golden Spike driven at Bend’s first railroad depot
1915 | Scanlon-Gipson Lumber Company sells Oregon Timber to Brooks-Scanlon Lumber Company
1916 | Brooks-Scanlon and Shevlin-Hixon sawmills begin operating in Bend.
1916 | Deschutes County incorporated
1920 | Bend population soars to 5,414
1930 | Brooks-Scanlon principal founding partners M.J. Scanlon and Dr. Dwight Brooks pass away
1950 | Brooks Scanlon purchases Shevlin-Hixon in Bend, acquiring sawmill and timber holdings
1958 | Bachelor Butte developed into Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort
1958 | Bend Sawmill modernized and enlarged
1969 | Brooks Resources Corporation formed as a subsidiary of Brooks-Scanlon
1970 | Black Butte Ranch development begins
1974 | Mount Bachelor Village Resort construction begins
1979 | Brooks Resources Corporation becomes separate company
1980 | Brooks-Scanlon purchased by and merged with Diamond International Corp.
1981 | Shevlin Center developed
1984 | Awbrey Butte breaks ground
1993 | Awbrey Glen construction begins
1996 | Shevlin RiverFront takes shape
1999 | Conference Center built at Mount Bachelor Village
1999 | Brooks enters joint venture to develop NorthWest Crossing
2000 | Century Washington Center developed
2002 | First home in NorthWest Crossing built and sold
2003 | Awbrey Park begins
2004 | North Rim launched
2004 | Brooks Resources headquarters moves to downtown Bend
2004 | RiverWild homes offered
2006 | IronHorse in Prineville launched
2006 | Yarrow in Madras Launched
2008 | The Great Recession hits Central Oregon
2008 | Brooks Resources turns over Awbrey Butte to owners/HOA
2009 | Brooks Resources sells Awbrey Glen to owners
2013 | Central Oregon real estate market and economy shows signs of recovery
2014 | Brooks enters partnership with Taylor NW (Taylor Brooks) to build Shevlin Health & Wellness Center
2015 | Brooks sells Yarrow in Madras to the Bean Foundation
2016 | Tree Farm Development & Sales
2017 | Brooks Resources Offers Development Services to Private Clients
2018 | Mount Bachelor Village Acquired by Oksenholt Companies
2023 | Taylor Brooks is formed
