The Family Resource Center provides parents with childraising strategies that strengthen their children‘s physical, mental and social development. It is the only agency in Central Oregon that offers evidence-based parenting education classes to parents of children of all ages.

The Family Resource Center offers classes that help parents and caregivers learn skills that are proven to enhance cognitive, social and emotional development and improve school readiness and academic performance. Classes cover topics ranging from communicating effectively with children, learning ways to handle challenging behaviors and situations, identifying your strengths as a parent, developing skills to build positive family communications and how to set clear limits. See the full list of classes tailored for various age groups.

Family Resource Center developed Raising Teens Today to guide parents and caregivers through the teen and pre-teen years. The Center also offers workshops and a self-paced computer class covering topics such as sibling conflict and bedtime struggles for parents with children ages 3-9, and topics such as homework, disrespectful talk and chore avoidance for parents with youth 10-17. Several additional brochures are available online including Raising Teens Today, Bullying, Connecting to your Teen, Screentime and Chatting with Kids About Being Online.

In 2010 the Family Resource Center received a grant from the Oregon Community Foundation (OCF) that enabled the Center to expand services to Jefferson and Crook Counties. They are the lead agency of the Central Oregon Parenting Education HUB, which is a 25-agency collaborative dedicated to supporting and expanding parenting education in Central Oregon.

As a longtime supporter, we believe the Family Resource Center is doing a tremendous job with parenting education as a critical strategy for ensuring that all children thrive. The amount of online content that’s readily available, as well as numerous classes covering a range of positive parenting topics is a true resource for our community.
