Madras, Oregon – Yarrow, a new master-planned community located in the rolling hills east of Madras, today announced that it will require all builders to comply with Earth Advantage® standards. Beginning with its first phase of construction, all homes in Yarrow will be Earth Advantage®-certified for energy efficiency, healthier indoor air, resource efficiency and environmental responsibility.

“We see the Earth Advantage® program as a critical component in fulfilling our commitment to sustainable building practices,” said Cameron Craig, project manager for Yarrow. “Part of responsibly growing Madras is being responsible for our environment, and we see this program as an attainable step toward that goal.”

Homes will be asked to comply in the following areas:

– Resource efficient building materials from framing to finish work, including the incorporation of recycled materials;

– Indoor air quality through the use of less toxic construction materials and floor coverings, plus air filtration systems and controlled fresh air ventilation;

– Environmentally responsible building practices may include the use of naturescaping, less toxic outdoor wood, water efficiency and proper disposal of construction materials; and

– Energy efficiency through duct sealing, high efficiency windows and heating systems, building envelope air sealing, efficient lighting and appliances, shade trees and other naturescaping. All homes will qualify for ENERGY STAR® Homes Northwest.

The new community of Yarrow, situated on 900 acres on the east side of Madras, will be a vibrant collection of neighborhoods incorporating neotraditional design principles. Madras Land Development Company, a joint venture of Brooks Resources Corporation, Eagle Crest and Taylor Northwest, is developing the property.
