Bend, Oregon – Brooks Resources Corporation today announced that a name has been selected for the new neighborhood it will develop in the northern part of Bend, Oregon. The name “Riley Park” was chosen for the propert’s original homesteader, O.B. Riley, for which the main access road to the new community is also named. The park-like setting of the property on a bluff over the Deschutes River also contributed to the final name selection.

“For this neighborhood, we really wanted to provide a sense of place and history,” said Dale Van Valkenburg, Brooks Resources Corporation planning manager. “We knew we wanted to include ‘Riley’ in our final name selection, as O.B. Riley was the original homesteader of the property. Also, many people identify with O.B. Riley Road, so this name gives a point of reference for the physical location of the new neighborhood.”

Brooks Land and Cattle Company LLC, a division of Brooks Resources Corporation, acquired a portion of the 704-acre property in 2005, and has the option to purchase the balance over the next several years. The property — known for many years as Gopher Gulch Ranch — is located immediately north of the City of Bend and contains a mile and a half of Deschutes River and canyon rim frontage with main access from O. B. Riley Road.

Currently, Brooks Resources is working with DTJ Design of Colorado to finalize a master plan for the neighborhood. Tentative plans call for a variety of housing types, a middle school and two small elementary schools, a small amount of neighborhood commercial and office space, large areas of parks and open space, and dedicated space for a community/civic use around the neighborhood center.
